Mr Nigel Allen MS FRCS

Consultant Urologist
GMC number - 1498310

Mr Nigel Allen has been a Consultant Urologist to The Medical Specialist Group since its inception in 1992.

He was born and grew up in Guernsey, being educated at the Castel School and Elizabeth College.

He then trained as a doctor at Sheffield University and worked for four years as a junior doctor in the Midlands before moving to Southampton in 1975 where he stayed for seven years training in a wide range of surgery with particular emphasis on Urology in adults and children.

Eighteen months research into kidney transplantation led to the degree of Master of Surgery (Southampton University) in 1982. A move to Oxford followed as Lecturer in Surgery to the University and Senior Registrar in Urology and Transplantation.

Mr Allen is registered as a Urologist on the Specialist Register of the GMC, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons and of the British Transplant Society.

Mr Allen's appointment to the Island was part of the increasing recognition of specialisation in surgery. Urology is a highly technological specialty and the purchase of sophisticated equipment locally led to the ability to undertake a wide range of urological procedures here in Guernsey. Travel to the UK is now required only for procedures requiring very expensive equipment such as Radiotherapy or Lithotripsy and for occasional operations needing particular skills.

Close links continue to be maintained with urological colleagues in the South-West region of the UK and Mr Allen attends regular meetings and sits on advisory committees.

His wife Pauline is an Advocate, his son Richard is a chartered accountant and his daughter Rachael Hollyanna has two children. Mr Allen's lifelong interest outside work is sea-fishing from his boat.
