Dr Jim Chandler is one of 8 Anaesthetists working at the MSG. He was born
in England and trained as a doctor in Leicester graduating with honours.
He was one of the first students to take part in a European exchange program
to a German university.
He started his anaesthetic career in Norwich and went on to complete his specialist
training in East Anglia, working in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, Papworth,
Kings Lynn and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital along the way.
He undertook a fellowship in Cardiothoracic anaesthesia at Papworth and was
trained in intensive care in Cambridge, Kings Lynn and the Norfolk & Norwich.
He has passed the National Board Examination of special competence in
perioperative transesophageal echocardiography.
He is registered with the GMC and is on the specialist register.
Prior to commencing at the Medical Specialist Group, he was a consultant
cardiothoracic anesthesiologist (registered as visiting professor) and
intensive care physician at Washington University School of Medicine, St
Louis, Barnes Hospital, a highly regarded top 10 US hospital and medical
school where he had teaching, research and clinical commitments.
Dr Chandler's experience complements an already strong Department of Anaesthesia.
His wife is French and they have 3 children. Dr Chandler speaks French and German
and is a keen sailor.
