Dr Peter Gomes FRCP

Dr Gomes has been a Consultant Physician and Oncologist at the Medical Specialist Group since March 2000.

He was born in Havant, Hampshire and educated at South Downs College, before training as an undergraduate at the University of Southampton Medical School where he qualified as a Doctor in 1984.

Following a period working in Southampton, Salisbury and Bournemouth, he completed a two year registrar rotation in general and respiratory medicine in Leeds before joining the Medical Branch of the Royal Air Force wherein he continued his specialist training through posts in Germany and Wroughton. Upon completion of his general medical training, he spent 3 years at Charing Cross Hospital in London undertaking advanced training in Medical Oncology (the medical treatment of cancer).

Prior to coming to Guernsey, he was a Consultant at the Royal Haslar Hospital in Gosport where he was involved in establishing the Cancer Unit there and was Consultant Oncologist for all three Services. He has published numerous papers on cancer and general medicine.

Since joining the Medical Specialist Group in 2000, Dr Gomes has been instrumental in the development of the Cancer Unit in Guernsey and continues to have strong links with the regional Cancer Centre in Southampton.

His particular interests include the management of breast, lung and colorectal cancers in addition to general oncology and acute general medicine.

He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians, is on the Specialist Register of the GMC and is also a Member of the Association of Cancer Physicians and the European Society of Mastology.

His major interests outside work are his family, gardening, sports and keeping fit.
