Mr Carl Jensen is one of four Obstetricians and Gynaecologists working at the Medical Specialist Group.

He was born in Durban, South Africa, and undertook his medical degree at the University of Stellenbosch. He subsequently trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town and became a Fellow of the South African College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1990. During this training he also completed a research project and was awarded a Master of Medicine (Obstetrics) degree from the University of Cape Town in 1993.

He came to the United Kingdom in 1991 to further his training and was appointed as a registrar at Hillingdon Hospital, a research registrar at the Royal Free Hospital and senior registrar at the Whittington Hospital and University College Hospital London. He was then appointed as a consultant at University Hospital Lewisham in 1998. At the University Hospital Lewisham he expanded and computerised the colposcopy services and developed the Day Surgery Services to include an outpatient hysteroscopy clinic. He was also Clinical Director of Women's Health from April 2000.

He is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the British Society for Colposcopists and Cytopathologists and is on the specialist register of the GMC.

Mr Jensen is a generalist with a broad base of experience in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is a strong believer in a multi-disciplinary team approach to the care of pregnant women. He has a particular interest in colposcopy, minimal access and day surgery.

He has a wife and two young children, both of whom were born in London. His main interests outside work are outdoor activities, including walking and camping, and spending time with his family.
