Out-Patient Care
Patients requiring a consultation with an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist are referred
by their GPs to clinics at Alexandra House. Patients may be referred to the
consultant of their choice or to a consultant who has a particular specialist
interest in their type of medical problem.
Obstetric Care in Pregnancy
A full range of care in pregnancy is offered by each of the consultants in
conjunction with the midwives at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. Services
include ultrasound scanning, antenatal and postnatal care together with care
in labour. There is a Consultant available at all times to care for women in
labour should any problems occur. There is also close liaison with the
Paediatric Consultants who provide a 24 hour service for any new born babies
that require medical attention.
In Patient Care for Gynaecology Patients
Gynaecology in-patients are usually cared for on Victoria Wing at the Princess
Elizabeth Hospital where each patient is seen by their own consultant each day.
If their own Consultant is not available then the on call Gynaecologist will
supervise each patient's care. All gynaecology patients are cared for by a team
of specialist trained gynaecology nurses.
Emergency Care
The obstetricians and gynaecologists provide a 24 hour on-call emergency service
on a rotating basis. This service covers the hospital patients and referrals
from GPs.
