Mr David Pring MB BCh FRCS

Mr David Pring is one of three Orthopaedic Surgeons working at the Medical Specialist Group.

He was born in Taunton, Somerset in 1951 and trained as a doctor at Newcastle Medical School, graduating in 1974. Following an initial period working on the Professorial Medical and Surgical Units in Newcastle, he worked as an Anatomy Demonstrator at Newcastle University before commencing training as a surgeon.

Between 1978 and 1982 he worked for the Leprosy Mission in Asia, a position which involved considerable orthopaedic and hand surgery, and which subsequently led to his returning to England to train as a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon. This included appointments at the Hammersmith Hospital, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and a period of dedicated Paediatric Orthopaedic training at Great Ormond Street.

During his Consultant training, he undertook additional FellowshipTraining in Hand Surgery in Brisbane, Australia, and Basle in Switzerland.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, a Fellow of The British Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is on the Specialist Register of the GMC.

Prior to his appointment at the Medical Specialist Group in 1992, all Guernsey patients requiring major joint replacement surgery had to travel to the UK for their treatment. Mr Pring's special interest includes hip, knee, shoulder and elbow replacement surgery and the vast majority of these procedures can now be performed on-island. He has additional special interests and expertise in Hand and Spinal Surgery.

His major interest away from work is flying.
