Dr Peter Standring PhD FRCPCH

Dr Peter Standring is a Consultant Paediatrician at the Medical Specialist Group
with special interests in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Allergy.
He was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, and trained as a doctor at Cape Town University.
Following Graduation in 1987, he worked in a number of Paediatric Hospitals in
Cape Town before moving to the UK in 1989. He commenced specialist training as
a Paediatrician in 1992 at Leeds General Infirmary gaining wide experience in
general Paediatrics as well as Paediatric Intensive Care and Neonatology.
In 1994 he was appointed as a Research Fellow in Asthma and Allergy in the
Department of Child Health at the University of Southampton completing work
which subsequently led to a PhD. In 1997 he worked at the Women's and Children
Hospital, South Australia, in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine before returning
to Southampton and completing his specialist training in 1999.
Dr Standring is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatricians, is on the
Specialist Register of the GMC and is a Member of The British Society of Allergy
and Clinical Immunology and the British Association for Community Child Health.
His sub-specialty interests are in the areas of Respiratory Medicine and Allergy
but his work in Guernsey also involves a considerable amount of Community
Paediatrics including child health surveillance and disease prevention, and
special clinics for children with soiling and bedwetting problems and
developmental orthopaedic problems. In addition he runs joint clinics with
a Child Psychiatrist for children with behavioural and developmental problems.
He is married with 4 children and his interests outside work include cricket,
tennis and guitar.
