Mr Ranjan Vhadra MBBS, FRCS (Eng), FRCS (Tr & Orth)

Mr Vhadra is one of three Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons working at the Medical Specialist Group.

He was born in Walsall, England, and trained as an undergraduate at The Medical College of St Bartholomew's Hospital (University of London) where he qualified as a doctor in 1992.

His basic surgical training included demonstrating anatomy at Queen Mary Westfield College and a post as senior house officer at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. His higher surgical training has included posts as registrar at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital, Exeter and then later as registrar at Wrightington Hospital where he specialised in foot and ankle surgery. His training culminated with a fellowship at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Hospital, Oswestry in 2003. He gained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in October 2004 and is on the specialist register.

Mr Vhadra came to live and work in Guernsey in December 2004 and his appointment as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon plays an essential role in the expansion of the island's orthopaedic services.

He has a keen interest in research and has been formally taught research methodology at the University of Central Lancashire. Many of his research projects have been presented at International and National levels and some have been published. In 2001 he was awarded the Mallimson Bursary for best research paper at the North West Annual Orthopaedic Meeting. He also has a special interest in osteoporosis and is a member of the National Osteoporosis Society for which he has presented talks on research relating to the field.

Mr Vhadra is married to a GP and they have two small children. His major interests outside of work include DIY, car mechanics, computers and walking.
