Mr Richard Vowles is one of two Otolaryngologist - Head and Neck Surgeons working at the Medical Specialist Group.

He was born in Chester, and trained as a doctor at Guy's Medical School in London. Following Graduation in 1989, he undertook a period of general surgical training at a number of hospitals in London before deciding to specialise in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery.

His ENT training included time at some of the leading academic centers in the UK and incorporated all aspects of the specialty but with particular emphasis and additional training in the management of Head and Neck Cancer at Charing Cross Hospital and The Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London. He has particular and rare expertise in the removal of tumours using lasers and has been instrumental in acquiring a modern new laser at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for this purpose. He has also developed a special interest in Facial Plastic Surgery and the management of skin cancers around the face.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of The British Association of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and is on the Specialist register of the GMC.

He commenced work at the Medical Specialist Group in Guernsey in 1999 and has forged links with a number of mainland centres both in Southampton and London with respect to the optimal management of Head and Neck Cancer in Guernsey. Each month he visits the Head and Neck Cancer Centre at Charing Cross Hospital where he participates in the surgical and academic work performed there in order to maintain the special skills required in this field.

He remains however a true generalist, practising all aspects of the specialty including Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and Functional and Cosmetic Rhinology.

Mr Vowles is no stranger to Guernsey as his wife, Suzi Dorey, is local and works as one of the island's Eye Specialists. His interests away from work include tennis and golf, and especially cooking and entertaining.
