Dr Martin Wolfe MB BS FRCA

Consultant Anaesthetist
GMC number - 1614732

Dr Martin Wolfe has been a Consultant in Anaesthesia to the Medical Specialist Group since 1995.

He was born in Bedfordshire and educated at Luton Grammar School, before training as an undergraduate at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, London University, where he qualified as a Doctor in 1973.

His training in anaesthesia started in Torquay before he moved to a Specialist Training Scheme at Sheffield University where he underwent extensive training in all areas of modern anaesthetic practice. One year was spent gaining experience in paediatric and adult cardio-thoracic anaesthesia in Leeds and a further year working in Sweden and Holland was valuable in learning Local Anaesthetic techniques.

Dr Wolfe commenced a Consultant post in Anaesthesia in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in 1984. He simultaneously held an honorary consultant appointment as anaesthetist to Rampton top security hospital.

Dr Wolfe has retained an interest in all areas of anaesthetic practice with particular involvement in dental anaesthesia and sedation, paediatric, obstetric and gynaecological anaesthesia. He is on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists of England and an active member of the Association of Anaesthetists, The Association of Dental Anaesthetists and the Obstetric Anaesthetists Association.

As well as regular involvement with maintaining skills through visits to units on the mainland, he has a fervent interest in the support provided by other para-clinical groups in Guernsey, being the Medical Director of the Island's Paramedic Group which oversees the training and standards of local paramedics.

His wife Barbara shares a love of horses and dogs and they have four children who all reside on the mainland. Martin Wolfe's main interests away from medicine include DIY and furniture restoration which is very useful since he and his wife live in one of Guernsey's oldest farmhouses!
